Dialogue for Baritone Saxophone and Piano – (2016) Duration: 7′

Program note

I wrote “Dialogue” as a musical impression of how deeper understanding between two entities, be it individuals or countries, may have the ability to ultimately change hearts and minds. In today’s troubled world, a lack of dialogue seems to be permeating so much contention. I feel that even when we speak to one another we seldom listen but rather just wait for our turn. I set out to create a musical expression that portrays a profound conversation between two instruments – saxophone and piano in this case – despite their fundamental differences. And it is in that form of conversation where both entities empathize with and understand each other’s points of view, state of mind and way of life, and ultimately unite to reaffirm the self-evident truth that we are all the branches of the same tree.
